This is an original Gempp Pernod buvard (ink blotter) from their distillery located in the small town of Lunel, in southern France. Buvards were used as thick, absorbent papers to blot ink from a fountain pen used in writing. They were also sometimes used to soak up the excess ink left on parchment after writing with a fountain pen.
